FESTIVALS IN MY SCHOOL - 5th grade

CARNIVAL

By: Joanna Perez

In Maria Reina School we have celebrated carnival. They were very funny. We did our own costumes. We did them from paper and plastic bags. We also learnt a dance. All the students participated. It was fantastic! When the party finished, we played removing all the papers from the costume we have done and the teachers gave us hot chocolate and biscuits.
In my city carnival fills the street with colour. I have not dressed up, but I had a really good time watching the street parade. This carnival has been great. I hope next year to be as good as this.

HALLOWEEN

By: Sofia Barajas

In my school we celebrate: Tamborrada, Carnival, Santo Tomas, Basque day, the end of the school year and Halloween.
On tamborrada day we play the drum, but I don’t like it because it is tiring. On carnival we dress up and I like that. On Santo Tomas we eat “txistorra” (sausage). On the Basque day we run in the streets. At the end of the school year we play different games. They give us the marks. Finally on Halloween day, we dress up as witches, monsters and scary people. We learn a song and a dance about monsters. Afterwards the English teacher gives us sweets. I love festivals!

KORRIKA

By: Ivan

We have two special days in the Basque Country around our language: the basque language day and “Korrika” day. My favourite party in my school is “Korrika” day. This word means “run” in basque. A few days before the “Korrika” day we make “dorsal” of a different colours. The “Korrika” day, we go out and run on the road. There are a lot of people watching us. When we finish running the school teachers give us a small lunch. I also like the last day of the school. We play different games and sports. It is very funny and all the students are happy because the summer holidays are coming. I hope this day comes soon.
